Zoos, butterflies and pet portraits

Glorious Jefferson

I am officially a very happy lady as I sold one of my paintings at the Curiosity pop up shop (Birds with Bow Ties), so a massive thank you to that brilliant person!

I found an amazing vintage zoo set at a flea market recently to add to my collection of vintage toys and dolls houses. I love the colours and the revolving blue wooden post at the entrance! I will be painting more curious creatures soon, I have a current thing about lobsters, swans and pelicans!

Five paintings from my collection 'They often wear bow ties'

Saturday, 18 September 2010

'Curiosity' is now open for business!

I spent yesterday hanging my work
at the new pop up shop called 'Curiosity' at 97-99 Clerkenwell Road. It's a lovely space which is going to be crammed with contrasting styles of work including jewellery, prints, paintings, ceramics, furniture, wallpaper etc. It opens today and will run until Tuesday 28th September so make sure you visit before it disappears! (The incredible zebra head has been made by Donya Coward and consists of sequins, pearly buttons, beads and feathers and much more besides and is truly amaaaazing!)

The paintings are getting knitted frames in bright and bold colours!

Five O'clock Shadow

This group of paintings are in the process of having knitted frames attached to them, I feel it finishes them off and adds another layer of decoration. I would really like to make much bolder and bigger frames with red felt for my next group of paintings so keep watching this blog for my new work!

'Curiosity' ..... coming soon to Clerkenwell Road

Curiosity is an exciting new pop up shop which will be opening on 18th September and will stay open until 28th September. I'm really looking forward to showing my paintings and seeing the other work for sale by established and up and coming designers and makers. Please look at for details and profiles of all the designers showcasing their work to coincide with the London Design Festival.

This week's new paintings... I'm getting quite addicted and have too many ideas and not nearly enough time! I'm delighted to be showing a selection of my new work at a show in London next month which has been curated by the very organised and clever Catherine Hammerton who has brought together a really interesting mix of makers, designers and crafts people together in a pop up shop called Curiosity, have a peek at to find out more about the makers involved.

They often wear bow ties and may even wear a cake as a hat

Party Pooper (probably a self portrait)
Title now changed to...
Shy at the Party

New paintings this week... all in aid of a pop up shop on Clerkenwell Road in September... keep watching my blog for further information. I'm pretty much obsessed with portraits of imagined creatures at the moment. I really want to create a children's book which will obviously involve cake and parties and will try to capture the ridiculous excitement you felt as a child at the prospect of going to one of these sugar fuelled candy coloured events! How is it that I can't seem to summon up that sense of excitement anymore, I must be getting old!
